Krohn Environmental Sense is me, Jack Krohn. I have worked in the environmental field in Victoria since the early 1980s, mostly in impact assessment but also touching on environmental and sustainability planning.
In particular, my experience includes:
- Eight years working for the Victorian Environment Protection Authority in licensing and planning roles.
- Over 30 years working in Victorian State Government on environmental assessments under the Victorian Environment Effects Act 1978 and accredited assessments under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
- In particular, sectoral familiarity with impact assessments across proposals for roads, railways, transmission lines and other linear infrastructure projects, coastal development, dredging, wind farms, quarries, mines and gas projects.
- Serving as a Director in the Board of the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Reserve Foundation for nine years, filling both Deputy Chair and Secretary roles.
- Leading working groups advising on future land use and management options for the former Devilbend Reservoir and Frankston sites.
- Participating in nine International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) annual conferences around the world, and chairing innovative interactive sessions at most of those conferences.
- Serving currently on IAIA’s Standing Technical Program Committee for annual conferences in 2024, 2025 and 2026.
- Serving for several years on the Impact Assessment Special Interest Section Committee for the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ), of which I was appointed a Fellow Member in 2021, and presenting at various EIANZ annual conferences, seminars, webinars and Impact Assessment symposia.
- Honoured to have received EIANZ’s 2024 Excellence in Environmental Practice Award.
- Over fifty years’ birding in the field, including submission of more than 1,500 surveys to Birdlife Australia’s ongoing Atlas, Birdata.
- Participation in multiple field surveys for birds, including Superb Lyrebird, Brolga, Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater.
- Field experience with over 550 bird species in Australia.
